Stage 2 - Super Sagan

Cote de la Glacerie now; short but horrible – Stuyven still has 1:20 as Lotto go mad for Gallopin.

Stuyven stamps hard on the pedals, he still looks strong with 2.7 K to go and a minute and more in hand.

Tinkoff drive for Sagan, Valgren is SO strong; the seconds are slipping away now as Cav pops – we’ll have a new maillot jaune tonight.

Slagter leads the peloton, Porte has punctured – he could not have picked a worst place. . .

Kreuziger leads brilliantly for Sagan; Stuyven takes the mountains points – he’s King of the Mountains tomorrow, whatever happens.

Red kite and they’re about to consume Stuyven – he’s finished.

They’re all there, Sagan, Matthews, Valverde, Alaphilippe – Sagan looks around, he looks like he has this one covered.

Matthews goes, head down, ‘Cav style’ – Alaphilippe now, but it’s the man in the rainbow who takes it from the Frenchman and the inevitable Valverde.

Apparently Sagan thought there were two riders up the road, hence no victory salute. Not so for Alaphilippe who looked like he REALLY wanted the win. In the end he was beaten by a leisurely Sagan but scored the White jersey as a consolation.

It seems Sagan has been around long enough to remember the good old days and is not happy with the respect the riders are showing each other:

Sagan pulled no punches and said there was a lack of self-policing in the peloton compared to when he first started racing in the professional ranks six years ago.

“It’s like everybody is riding [as if they] lose the brain,” he fumed. “There are stupid crashes in the group, it’s very dangerous. When it’s wet nobody brakes — for sure you’re going to crash.
“It’s not logical. In the group, before there was respect. When someone did something stupid, everybody throws their [water] bottle on him or beats him with [tire] pumps.
Porte's concerns were less of the other riders but more on road debris:
Richie Porte‘s Tour de France turned pear-shaped quickly when a rear wheel puncture in the final kilometres of only the second stage to Cherbourg-en-Cotentin cost him 1-45 on his rivals.
The Australian, who co-leads BMC Racing with Tejay van Garderen after helping Chris Froome for years, relied on the service of Mavic as the flat happened at 4.5 kilometres to race in a technical uphill finish.
The mechanic worked quickly, but given the importance of the incident for Porte’s overall hopes, the change seemed to take hours.
Sagan:
"It is the first time in my career to have the yellow jersey, and it is unbelievable. I'm already wearing a nice jersey [world champion], but this one is also very nice."
Very nice for Glenn, too:
